I used to carry a print out of this everywhere I go because I find it very soothing.  This print out was in a plastic page saver. On the other side there is a Psalm 116, part of the post from Day Nineteen of the 2015 Cushing's Challenge.  These days, both these readings are available on my phone. ----- The Pituitary Gland: Small But Mighty
By MaryO

Not only does the pituitary make its own hormones, but it alsotriggers hormone production in other glands. The pituitary is aided in its job by the hypothalamus. This part of the brain is situated above the pituitary, and sends messages to the gland on when to release or stimulate production of necessary hormones. ----- What You Should Know About Pituitary Tumors
By MaryO

Treatments may include surgery, radiation therapy or medication. Transsphenoidal surgery is surgery performed through the nose and sphenoid sinus (located in the very back part of the nose, just beneath the base of the brain) to remove a pituitary tumor. It can be performed with an endoscope, microscope or both and is a team effort between neurosurgeons and ear, nose and throat (otolaryngology/ENT) surgeons. Radiation therapyuses high-energy x-rays to kill the tumor cells and is recommended when surgery is not an option, if the pituitary tumor remains, or if the tumorcauses symptoms that are not relieved by medicine. I remember the moment I realized something wasn't right.  My mom was taking me to the mall, because none of my jeans fit me anymore.  She was talking about how she wished I would try to lose weight, because she has been overweight most of her life, and didn't want that for me.  But, I needed pants to wear to school, so I bought another size up.  I remember thinking, nothing has changed.  I didn't eat more, or less, I hadn't stopped any activities.  Maybe this was just my metabolism slowing down.  Read more at http://www.lifewithcushings.com/
