Great Article!!

Mary, thanks for sharing. It sums up how difficult this disease is to diagnose, very well.

I have sent it to my family in hopes that it will help them understand a bit better.

Thanks again.

Thank you. I am clicking on the pictures and it does get bigger but I cannot read the print. Should it come up big enough for me to read? Or am I clicking the wrong thing?

It should be big enough to read. Usually, there's a little square image that comes up on to of the pictures and you can click on that to enlarge.

I can make the pictures bigger if anyone has trouble reading them. I didn't want to make them too big because images take up a lot of server space, though.

Just when I believed I didn't have cushings (this is what the best experts in my country have said), I read this article and have every symptom they mention. I need a daily cocktail of drugs to function and feel unwell all the time. Oh well it looks like i haven't met my last endo!

God I'm confused!

BWT - technically, what is supposed to happen to T4 levels in a person with cushings?

Thanks for posting this concise informative article - I knew there was a reason I loitered.

There was only one discrepancy I found. In the chart they noted how to test for ACTH, early morning. Everyone should have a regular "high" reading in the morning. Some, like myself, tested low in the morning for both ACTH and cortisol. Levels should be measured at or close to midnight to determine a diurnal variation. If cortisol and ACTH show up normal in the morning, that's how the doctor will read it - you wouldn't have Cushing's according to him/her.

I am glad to hear that Dex suppression tests are now considered indicative of further investigation with a >1.8 value. My endo said my 2.7 was with in normal range. I will share this article with her.

That was an interesting article.  Where can we get copies of that magazine??

As far as I know, you have to be a member of the Endocrine Society to get this.

You might be able to get just this one issue by emailing [email protected] though. That's the email address for comments and suggestions, so whoever reads that email might be able to direct you to the correct place to ask, if not there.

Maybe letters to the editor thanking them for highlighting Cushing's might be a good idea. Email [email protected] to send a letter to the editor. Maybe some would be published and the doctors (endos!) who read this could get the patient's eye view.

Thanks for the link, Cherri. I had looked for that before the last email newsletter from here came out and ran out of time, so I just scanned it in myself. The link will be helpful, too :D
