I also experienced those debilitating pains after surgery for an entire year. I felt like I was 120 years old. Nothing I tried helped.
I then went to a new endocrinologist (mine had just retired) and he told me that he doesn't put any of his patients on statin drugs because he personally went on one and experienced severe muscle aches.
I went off like he suggested and a few weeks later I felt so much better. I wish your mom the best.
