  1. I have had 2 failed pit surgeries that never turned up an actual tumor. I desperately want the octreoscan, and my husband agrees. The doctors all refuse to do it, and my husband is getting very angry over this. My acth is never high, so no doctor thinks it could possibly be ectopic. I disagree. I don't think there is enough known about this disease to say for sure that it can't be ectopic.
  2. Hope, did they know for sure that you had an ectopic source, or did they initially believe it was pituitary? Just curious because I have had 2 failed pit surgeries with no tumor ever found. I truly believe it is ectopic, possibly in an ovary...
  3. Melissa, Florida. Pit surgery #1: March 2009. Pit surgery #2: December 2009. BLA to come?
  4. No offense taken here, Robin! While I don't drink artificial sweeteners, I do agree that the study shows a correlation rather than causality. Melissa B.
  5. http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20050613/drink-more-diet-soda-gain-more-weight So here's an article on WebMD that references the study to which I had referred. It's interesting, but it's only one study. I dunno, take it for what its worth. (I'm on my cell phone, so I hope the link comes through.) Melissa B.
  6. I wouldn't say that the study I saw was necessarily junk science. I'm a biologist, so I normally have pretty good judgement when it comes to research. I'll see if I can find it - I know the research comes from a major university. Melissa B.
  7. I read a recent study that shows that people who consume diet soft drinks gain more weight and are more likely to become diabetic than those who drink regular soda. The reasons foe this are still unclear. Now where did I read this study? Hmmm...I'll have to see if I can find it.
  8. My dad was in the Vietnam War, too. He was stationed 5 miles from the Cambodian border. He had a number of seizures in his sleep during that time that were never explained. My family always theorized, though, that he was exposed to some kind of chemical. Melissa B.
  9. Interesting. Does anyone know what kind of respiratory and vascular diseases are associated with hypopituitarism What is the connection??
  10. I've read that it is believed that Henry VIII actually had porphyria. Who knows, though, maybe it was actually Cushing's. Melissa B.
  11. Why would someone have an elevated TSH, with mid-range normal T3 an T4 and zero antibodies? Could this have a relationship to Cushing's? Thanks! Melissa B.
